EMDR
What is EMDR ?

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprogramming (sounds complicated, I know !) and is the gold standard treatment for trauma. It was invented by Robin Shapiro in 1987 but it has only gained popularity in recent years.
I would say EMDR works by giving your brain a kind of "reset"- it has an ability to unfreeze negative and traumatic memories and restore them in a more healthy way. People often say that EMDR has left them feeling empowered and stronger than before, and comment that it has been life changing. Celebrities such as Prince Harry, Ruby Max, Miley Cyrus and Jameela Jamil have spoke about how EMDR has changed their lives.
Since training in EMDR I have been stunned by the changes it has made in people's lives in a relatively short space of time, and it is something that I have become very passionate about.

What type of trauma's and situations can EMDR help with?

Studies show that EMDR works best with traumatic memories- these can be memories from childhood, or of abuse (emotional or physical) in a past or recent relationship. EMDR is also commonly used with victims of road traffic accidents and witnessing traumatic events. Trauma is never the same for two people.

How many sessions of EMDR would I need?

This is very hard to say- I have had client's who have felt that there trauma has been resolved after one or two sessions, but I have also had client's who have needed many more.
